What To Know When Planning a Wedding in Chiang Mai
Weather – There are three seasons in Chiang Mai: the cool season from late September to mid-February; the dry season from March to June; and the wet season from July to mid-September. However, it is pleasant in Chiang Mai most days of the year, with temperatures being between 25 degrees Celsius during the cool season and 35 degrees Celsius during the hottest season of the year.
Best Time To Do a Wedding – The best time for a wedding in Chiang Mai would have to be between November to early February. This is the coolest time of the year, with very little rain, and humidity is also very low. Though the months of February to April falls in the dry season, it is not ideal to hold your wedding at this time in Chiang Mai. This is because these months are what they call the “burning season,” where farmers n northern Thailand burn their fields to make way for the new season. Chiang Mai typically experiences smog during these months, so it might not be a very good idea to hold an outdoor wedding at these times.
Options for Venues – Because Chiang Mai is a top tourist draw for many visitors who visit Thailand, more and more couples are choosing the city to hold their wedding. Though the city does not have any beaches or coastline, it does make up for it with spectacular mountain views, sprawling gardens, rice paddies, and even ancient temples where couples can hold their weddings. And of course, the 5-star resorts also abound, as well as exclusive private villas set on hilltop locations that are absolutely breathtaking.
Suppliers – Chiang Mai may be a more cultural and spiritual location than Phuket, Koh Samui, or Bangkok, but it is only a few hours away from the capital by plane. This means that world-class suppliers from around the country can easily travel to the city to make your dream wedding a reality. But of course, Chiang Mai also has its fair share of vendors that can absolutely deliver any of your wishes – be it a traditional Lanna wedding ceremony, flowers imported from Holland, or world-class DJs and entertainment.
Internatioanl Airport – Chiang Mai’s International Airport has multiple daily flights to and from Bangkok, making it easy to fly in your suppliers, families, and guests from anywhere around the country or around the world. They have direct flights to the following international destinations: Malaysia, Laos, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, and South Korea.
Unlimited Options for Accommodation – If a private villa can’t accommodate your entire wedding party or guests, there are so many hotels and resorts in Chaing Mai to choose from. There are colonial-style boutique resorts, Thai-inspired resorts beside rice paddies, riverbank hotels, and many downtown 5-star hotels where your guests can call their home away from home.
Activities for Couples and Guests – Chiang Mai is the cultural and spiritual capital of Northern Thailand. Located in a mountainous region, there are plenty of things to do and see in this city. When you come to Chiang Mai, make sure you and your guests leave out a few days to explore the temples and natural scenery that abound. Some of the activities that can be enjoyed in the city include:
- Temple Hopping – there are over 200 ancient wats in Chiang Mai, with the following being the most popular: Wat Chiang Mai, Wat Chedi Luang, and Wat Phan Tao
- Sunday Night Market – also known as NIght Bazaar, there are so man things to see, eat, and do in this bazaar
- The San kamphaeng Road – also known as “Handicarfaft Highway,” this is the place to find the best crafts in the city, from silverware to pottery, sculpture, to wood carvings, to silk products
- Doi Inthanon National Park – the highest peak in Thailand, it’s a great day excursion reachable within 1 hour and 30 minutes from the city
- Nimmanhaemin Road – if you want to dine and shop in Chiang Mai’s trendiest street, this is definitely the place to see and be seen
